Annette and Fergus join the dan grade ranks

19 July 2014

Left to right: Sensei Sherry, Annette Connell, Fergus Puddy, Sensei Rhodes Congratulations to both Annette Connell and Fergus Puddy who passed their black belt exams on Saturday in Egham, Surrey.

Annette becomes the third in her family to pass black belt at the club, ten years after having joined Backwell Karate. We are immensely proud of Annette's achievement, which comes after years of hard work and dedication. Annette's efforts embody the dojo code's third principle: to cultivate the spirit of perseverance.

Fergus first joined the club in October 2010, several months after Sensei Griffiths became Chief Instructor. Fergus' grading performance – particularly in kumite – showed maturity and demonstrated the steps forward he's made recently, particularly in the advanced grade Friday evening classes, which focus predominantly on kumite.

We wish both Annette and Fergus continued success in their Karate journey as Backwell Karate black belts over the coming months and years and look forward to supporting them with their next goals.
